Jeffrey (Jerry) G. Jarvik, MD, MPH
Overall Center Director and Director of the Admin Core
Dr. Jarvik is a Professor of Radiology with a joint appointment in the Department of Neurological Surgery and adjunct appointments in the Departments of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Washington. He has been researching back pain for over 3 decades and is currently the Director of the NIH/NIAMS-funded UW Clinical Learning, Evidence and Research (CLEAR) Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders.
Janna Friedly, MD, MPH
Associate Director of Admin Core
Dr. Friedly is Professor and Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington (UW). Dr. Friedly has clinical expertise in treating patients with chronic pain and extensive research experience in health services, clinical trials and outcomes research. Currently she serves as the associate director of the Admin Core for a NIAMS funded P30 clinical research center grant that has a primary goal of facilitating and training researchers to conduct musculoskeletal research (called the Clinical Learning Effectiveness and Research or CLEAR center).
Sandra K Johnston, PhD, RN
Executive Administrative Director
Dr. Johnston has a PhD in Nursing Science with a post-doctoral fellowship in biomedical and health informatics. She has extensive experience in clinical trial implementation and management. Dr. Johnston’s earlier work focused on patient-specific predictive models to predict response to therapy in patients with glioblastoma. Currently, she works closely with the internal steering as the Administrative and Operations Director of CLEAR, where she manages overall program development. As Executive Program Administrator for the UW CCCR she is responsible for the overall operational and administrative tasks needed to run the Center on a day-to-day basis.
Patrick J. Heagerty, PhD
Director of the Methodology Core
Dr. Heagerty is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington and leads the Center for Biomedical Statistics (CBS), which coordinates biostatistical collaboration within health sciences departments. As Director of CBS, he leads Data Coordinating Centers for the evaluation of therapeutics, surgical interventions, medical procedures, and clinical delivery. He has expertise in the analysis of longitudinal data, methods for prognostic biomarker evaluation, and design and analysis of cluster-randomized trials.
Sean D. Mooney, PhD
Associate Director of the Methodology Core
Dr. Mooney is a leader in the fields of computational biology and biomedical informatics. He heads Research IT for UW Medicine and manages the biomedical informatics teams in the University of Washington Institute of Translational Health Sciences. He brings significant experience in web engineering, data management, analytic software development, and dissemination of public and protected datasets. He leads the clinical research repositories for UW Medicine, along with many clinical research systems that support research activities with the UW Medicine system.
Pradeep Suri, MD
Director of Resource Core
Dr. Suri is a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington, Staff Physician at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Health Care System, and Epidemiologist at the Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center. He is a practicing clinical spine specialist. His areas of research expertise include epidemiology, genomic epidemiology, and clinical trials.
