The CLEAR Center proudly congratulates Mia Hagen, MD, Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at UW Medicine, for the successful completion of her randomized controlled trial, “Postoperative Hip Bracing After Arthroscopic Osteoplasty and Labral Repair for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS)” (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04599296).

This RCT was designed to test whether routine hip bracing after surgery provides meaningful clinical benefit. The study examined pain outcomes, validated hip-specific functional scores, and exam findings related to hip flexor tendonitis. This rigorous investigation addressed an important and unresolved question in orthopaedic sports medicine; whether postoperative bracing, a common but costly practice, truly enhances patient recovery following hip arthroscopy.

This research was presented as a podium presentation at the 2025 AOSSM Annual Meeting in Nashville, where it received the Excellence in Research Award, and has been accepted for publication in The American Journal of Sports Medicine (Hagen MS, Meier E, Wigton C, Son M, Kweon CY. “A Randomized Controlled Trial of Postoperative Hip Bracing After Arthroscopic Osteoplasty and Labral Repair for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome”. American Journal of Sports Medicine, in press).

Congratulations to Dr. Hagen and her team for advancing evidence-based postoperative care and bringing high-impact science from the CLEAR Center to national recognition!
